Well after fixing the steering box leak on this decided I better fix the spring mount on the passenger side that had dissolved away. Here's a pic of the old bracket and the new one I made. I figure either folks here will be impressed with it or I'll need my flame resistant suit on.

well, I can't comment on all of it b/c there could be a couple more pics of the new mount to judge it well, but at least you used a heavy enough material. looks like 1/4" BTW, how did the old one get that bad? Do you guys salt 11 monts of the year?;)

Good job. One....maybe the only one advantage of living in the desert is that the only salt I see is in the salt shaker. My 65 Mustang spring mounts still look like new. :)

I try and take some other photos if I can. The weird part about this is the other side is in near perfect condition. I have no idea why this side dissolved like that.

Salt filled puddles at the side of the road. I've had two cars where the A pillar on the passenger's side rotted out from the same thing.

Gee, all the poor southerner's that don't have the rust issues to deal with. Though I must admit, your shock/spring mount makes me feel a lot better about the frame repair I have to do on my 89 F350.
Nice repair job on the mount. It'll outlive the rest of the truck now. :D
BTW, I keep forgetting to ask, whereabouts is Kent Bridge?

Grey,
Kent Bridge is a small village located between London and Winsdor. Close to the 401. My house is actually in a tiny Hamlet called Northwood. About ten houses in total. Our mail address is Kent Bridge so I use that.
The salt/rust does suck but I have made some money doing rust repair damage so I guess it's not all bad.

Must be something Canadian. I'm patching up a '91 Sonoma.Pretty much everything below the doors or above the frame rails is toast.
No complaints from me, tho. No better excuse to buy some new tools.
My father'in'laws '91 had the same problem. I bought a replacement bracket from Ford for $63. Torched the old rivets out. Put on the new bracket with Grade 8 bolts (torqued) and welded the nuts/lock washers for safetys sake. 3 years ago and still going strong.
Passenger side as well:confused:
Nice job on the home made bracket.
