I can't remember. As a general, what tools are you going to be hauling around and using all the time? Last one was a van and you want to go back to a truck? I always love the wanting-a-new-truck process...

Do all the super cabs come with suicide doors in the back, now? Mine is a 95 super cab and pulling the tools from the back through the front doors is a real pain.

Consider a diesel. I would avoid the 6.0 tho and find a newer 7.3 Powerstroke. You'll do better on mileage than the V10 and probably at least as well as the 5.4 plus you'll have all the power you need to tow or load 'er up with tools if you need to.

My father just bought a 06' f-350srw 4x4 supercab with the 5.4 and is getting 10-11mpg.Might get better with some break-in, but my f-350 srw crew cab 4x4 v-10 gets around that with a full rig on.The diesel does have the torqe to pull alot, but if you dont pull or do long runs I dont see paying that much more plus the oil-changes are 3 times as much and diesel aint cheap anymore.

cummins diesel in a dodge pickup- 17-21mpg average, tons of power. Fords have nice interiors, dadges are nice under the hood and the dana full-flaoting axles are unbeatable. I guess it just depends which way your preferences lean. If you want to keep it a long time, go dodge w/ cummins. If for a shorter period and you really enjoy fine styling and good creature comforts, go for the fords. Both have their good sides.

i may buy this week. i'll give the costco buyers program a shot. i've been going to edmonds .com. maybe i can find a new 05 and save some$.$$.
no plans to haul big loads. most of our work is local, and have the F-8000 for
serious loads or pulls. i'm interisted on the lariat super cab F-250 4X4,5.4 gas, long bed
looks about $28,000. sound right? thank'''''s Tool

Mac, 97 was the last year that ford pulled that on us. The 98 had one jump door on the passenger side, the 99 was the first year to open on both sides.

my 96 E-350 460 is back with a new tranny. all the tools I carry for 3 trades are on 2 jobs or in the shop. 1st time in years i drove it empty. WOW it sure has *****.
was gonna sell it, not now. it runs great, nice back up. decided to go 3500 instead of 2500on chevy. my dealer can't find one i want. suggests i order one instead.
is this cheaper than one off lot? used edmonds.com, they e- mailed dealers

price on an 06 silverado3500 4x4 LT1 4 door extended cab 6. OL8 CYL 4A

$ 28,720 with all rebates rebates end 1/31/06 what will happen after the 31st
on this price? any guesses? thank,s tool

love edmonds e-mail quotes ,dealers hate it. they double teamed wife and myself
at ford dealer! i said to 2 s44t heads 'honey if you want to dance with me, put on some red hi heals' AND LEFT, WIFE COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING :)

I hate the dealership sales people when you want a truck, they never know crap. When I bought my last truck the salesman didnt know load spec so he got the truck manager(dyed blond mullet and gold chains) who told me a f-150 would carry 3500# all day no problem, I just added 3 leafs to the rear of my f-350.Im not brand loyal but I do like the solid axles on the fords(for a work truck).

I don't think vans had overloads??? you could go to a wrecking yard and get a set of overloads, spacers, Ubolts, and stops off a pickup, get new center bolts from a parts house or springshop, and install them. I once had a truck I just took springs from another truck and trimmed them with a torch to fit between each of the original springs, put the new stack together with new centerbolts and u bolts. If the van is just riding a little low, from carrying too much weight for too many years, maybe your springs just need to be re-arched -- any spring shop should be able to do this -- they take the stack apart and run each spring leaf through a roller, then reassemble -- raises ride height back to original and restores capacity. Airbags are probably the quick and easy solution -- plus you can vary the pressure depending on the load.

My truck was very soft and drifty, so I looked in to airbags but had no one close to get first hand exp. from so I went to a local spring shop and told them what I wanted to do.I got three leafs added to each side for around $300, I saved about $150 by taking them off myself. Now the truck is well away from the overloads and sits about 2-3" higher.Still not very stiff. Whole truck weighed about 11,000 last time at the scales. If it was a pick-up that I was not always going to have all that stuff on I would go with the bags so I could change the rate depending on the load.

my dads been a general contractor for about 20 years now.. i help him in the summers and i've never seen a use for a bigger truck than a half ton. we have a tool trailer and to tell the truth i can't stand the ladder racks and big tool boxes taking bed space up. my 2 cents anyways. right now he has a silverado 1500 reg cab 4x4... we can pull our heavy *** tool trailer as fast as we want. would be alot nicer if it was tantom axle though.
