View Full Version : Movable chicken coop
Here is my latest project. It is a chicken coop that is easily moved behind my little crawler

I went through the entire collage you did on the coop, and I must say that is quite a project! I can't do a thing with wood... I would have made it out of steel. :) Great wheel idea, too! The color looked pink on my computer...is that for real??
If they put your shop and mine together, you have a tuff time deciding who's was who's!

Very clever wheel idea I think I'll use something similar on my jobox. Do the front wheels detach or is the hole on the mount just for steering? I assume the coop doesn't have a bottom and the moving house is to expedite cleaning?
As for the color, my only defense is that it was free. My sons girlfriend works at a hardware store and she gave me a couple of gallons of left over exterior paint. Some people seem to like it, I just keep repeating"it was free".
The dolly on the front does detach. Thre is a pin holding it in place and the front is easily raised to attach the dolly.
The bottom is open. The main reason for making it movable is so I can move it around the 2 acre back yard. There is a small run that goes with it and keeps the chickens safe from dogs and coyotes. We have too many idiots who feel that this is the country so let the dogs run.

The engine is is not origonal and is a 10 hp B&S. The origonal was an 8 hp which I have. I picked it up from the grand daughter of the origonal owner and she gave me the paperwork. It was bought from Bean Bros Pump in Escondido in June of 1952 for $925. It spent its life in the hills of Romona. I also have the plow and disk. The plow was put to the test at the last Bell garden show and it has a draft problem.
It is mostly welded assemblies and I have had to fix a couple of cracked welds.
