View Full Version : HH180 Deal
What is everyones thoughts on this deal?
HH180 Remanufactured, 1 year warranty
$490 shipped
This seems like a good deal for a machine to learn on when I may upgrade in a year or so. What is the typical amount of hours that one of this machines will run before major parts need to be replaced? Any other input would be appreciated. Planning on purchasing tonight. :)
Thanks
Bobby

Not withstanding that this one is remanfactured, maybe never (at least a very long time), they are very reliable. ;)

I use my HH180 almost daily, and have for the past two years. It has never skipped a beat, no wire feed problems (other than a badly wound spool, not the machine's fault), good low range and mid range arc. I never use the uppermost settings, I switch over to stick for stuff 1/4 thick and thicker. I have welded some 1/4" with it on #2 setting (which is where I am 95% of the time #2, 50 speed), that did fine, but it was non-structural...just some art stuff. :)

Typically, reman'd products have been more thoroughly tested than first run units. It already came back for a problem, the manufacturer's rep is on the line with every bad unit that leaves the warehouse. Your warranty is kinda lame on that (only 1 year guys?), but the machine should be good for well beyond a $500 value.

Keep in mind also that a lot of stuff sold as "remanufactured" might not have ever had anything actually wrong with it - except maybe a purchaser that couldn't figure it out and assumed it was defective and returned it.
Remanufactured also doesn't mean that the manufacturer actually DID anything to it - i.e. "re-manufacture" it - there's a certain large computer company here who shall be anonymous but whose name coincidentally rhymes with "smell..." that sold "Factory Refurbished" PCs through its outlet store for years - when in fact all they did to them was plug them in, bench test them, and if they worked they went out for sale. If they didn't work, they went in the trash. That was the extent of their remanufacturing process.
In any case, you can look at it this way: if something did originally fail on it... now it's fixed and out of the way!

I think the person may have been wrong on warranty that I spoke with was new. Their site shows the following:
What is the warranty on Manufacturer-reconditioned tool?
Tool Kings reconditioned tools come with a double satisfaction guarantee, you receive a full manufacture warranty and a 100% Tool King Satisfaction guarantee.
That would lead me to believe it would have the 5/3/1 that hobart offers
The process states:
It is then returned to the manufacturer and is completely gone through to assure it meets all factory specifications and is then quality checked again. Manufacturer-reconditioned tools maintain the highest quality standards. Each tool is thoroughly examined for proper working condition and quality.

Actually, Dell sells factory seconds that are computers built to spec and not purchased for whatever reason. Not sure what their reman products consist of, but I have 24/7/365 on-site replacement from them and they always send sparkling clean replacements. I've fried a raid controller (bad terminator - purchased off ebay) and had a monitor (flat panel) power brick pop. They sent me a whole new monitor. It said reman on the box, but it was in the factory packing and configuration that mine were when they were "new".

Actually, my wife worked for them since 1985... I'm quite certain of what their practices were regarding refurbished products, at least up until the time they closed their "factory outlet store" here.
